Port Alberni’s Salmon Derby Celebrating 50 years of History
One of the most anticipated annual events is the Labour Day Salmon Derby! With the largest prize winning catch recorded in 1982, weighing at 60 lbs 8oz, the tournament draws anglers from all over the world with 1,750 contestants last year. A $50/rod entry fee gets you a chance at daily prizes up to $5,000, PLUS a bonus $5,000 for largest fish caught during the derby.

Tickets are $50/rod and available at Poett nook, Port Boat House, Alberni Power & Marine – RPM, Alberni Industrial, Gone Fishin’ stores , Breakers Marine in Bamfield and Port Alberni.. The official weigh station will be set up at Centennial Pier at the Harbor Quay, (bottom of Argyle street). A large part of the festival proceeds will go towards charities and local salmon restoration groups.
