CELEBRATE SONG WITH THE COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL

The Community Arts Council will be holding a VERY special spring concert, with special guests, the Greater Victoria Police Chorus. Join us for an afternoon of song and help raise funds for the arts in our community.

Based on their name alone, The Goddamsels aren’t your grandparents’ idea of country music. Formed out of the longstanding friendship between Alberta-based singer/songwriters Mallory Chipman and Freddi MacDougall, The Goddamsels write songs with strong, empowering messages, blended with elements of folk, pop and traditional country, all tied together by their stunning, instinctive harmonies.

Their signature sound, which has drawn comparison to acts like The Chicks and Fleetwood Mac, can be heard on their debut album, Wayward Daughter, and subsequent singles.

They were nominated for the 2023 Roots Artist of the Year at the Country Music Alberta Awards, and in 2023, they completed a staggering 60-date tour across Canada. The Goddamsels recently represented Canada as they completed their first European tour in Ireland, Scotland, and England in early 2024.

Port Posh Wash Presents the 2nd Annual Fathers’ Day Memorial Car Show.

This year it is in Memory of Don Deforest who was a well known in Port Alberni’s Car scene. Don Grew up in the golden era of muscle cars and always loved to be out sharing his passion with others. When you think of Don you think of him cruzin’ his red 1968 Dodge Charger RT. He loved his many coffee dates in the car down at the Harbour Quay with Donna and the many car shows they attended over the years making lifelong friendships in the car community. Don was also a proud member of the Valley Street Rods car club.

This is a free Event for all to participate and enjoy.

Last year the first show went off without a hitch with over 150 cars!

The Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley is proud to present a re-visited Port Alberni classic event; Teas at the Mill! Once located at the Rollin Arts Centre, Teas on the Terrace were an annual summer series of events featuring beautiful gardens, art, music and high/low tea options. Now that The Community Arts Council lives at the Grove Gallery (at the Harbour Quay) we are bringing back this classic at the historic McLean Mill.

Teas at the Mill event series promises an enchanting blend of culinary delights, local art, and musical entertainment. Let’s make waves for the arts in the Alberni Valley!

Calling all garlic lovers, garlic growers, the garlic curious and makers.

Come on down to the Spirit Square Farmer’s Market at Harbour Quay on Saturday September 21st for the first annual Equinox Garlic Festival. There will be demonstrations, a presentation on growing garlic, culinary and seed garlic for purchase, various contests to enter your best garlic, fun stuff for kids and opportunities for interested vendors to sign up for a table space for the day.

This shindig will be produced and MC’d by Darien Edgeler and Cydney Pedersen, and it promises to be gnarly to the max. The music will be totally tubular, and there will be costume prizes awarded between sets. Tickets are only $25, and they’ll be available both at the door and online atthecapitol.org.

Join us for our annual Rivers Day celebration in the Alberni Valley, where there are fun, interactive booths and activities set up to learn about our salmon run, watersheds, environment, wildlife, and more! This community event is family friendly, and free to attend!

This exhibit seeks to explore the concept of transition, a constant and often unnoticed phenomenon that resonates deeply within our community in Port Alberni. As new businesses flourish and fade, trees fall and seedlings rise, and as diverse families and groups weave their narratives into the fabric of our town, we witness the dynamic rhythm of change and growth.

Before race day:

• Register and pay for your VIHSS Series membership online
• Choose a class to compete in. You’ll need that for the next step…
• Register for the race online

On race day:

• Find a parking spot and bring your helmet with you to the sign-in tent at staging. We will test your transponder then, or sell you a new one if you don’t already have one.
• Get your gear on, ensure your bike is ready, and attend the riders meeting. Riders meeting is mandatory.
• From the riders meeting, you’ll be given a briefing about the race and directions on where to line up to start.
• After the race, check your results and stick around for the awards presentation.

After race day:

• At any point, you can check your race results again online on MotoTally. You can also check your overall points standing in the series.

Helpful info:

• We advise you to bring plenty of drinking water. Many riders wear a hydration pack for the race.
• Bring snacks for before and after. Some events will have a food truck. You can find out these kinds of details in the Facebook event for each race.

Enjoy some Hot Apple Cider while you decorate your own Pumpkin Ornament at the Craft Station.
