Experience one of Port Alberni’s most beloved holiday traditions aboard the heritage No. 7 Steam Locomotive. Santa’s Steam Express offers a festive 30-minute round-trip ride that travels along the waterfront from the Port Alberni Train Station toward the Harbour Quay area. Families can enjoy twinkling lights, billowing steam, holiday music and a cheerful visit from Santa as the train rolls through the winter landscape.
This annual event is operated by the Alberni Pacific Railway, part of the Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society. The No. 7 Baldwin Steam Locomotive, built in 1929, once served the logging industry and is now one of the few remaining operational steam engines on Vancouver Island. Riding aboard this historic train is a unique way to experience the region’s rail heritage while taking part in the holiday season.
