The Alberni Valley Local’s List: What to Do in November
Community theatre, live music, dinosaurs and the first plans for Christmas.
Looking for November activities in the Alberni Valley? This month brings a new community theatre production, visiting musicians and a museum exhibition worth making time for. Toward the end of November, a small farm market adds a little Christmas to the calendar.
For this edition of the Local’s List, we’re heading to the stage, spending an afternoon at the museum and getting a start on holiday shopping.
Spend an Evening with the Red Dirt Skinners
Start November with music and storytelling at Trinity Church. The Red Dirt Skinners perform Thursday, November 5, at 7:30 p.m., bringing a mix of folk, rock, blues and roots music to Port Alberni.

The Red Dirt Skinners bring music and storytelling to Trinity Church in Port Alberni on November 5.
Rob and Sarah Skinner pair vocal harmonies with guitar and soprano saxophone. Stories and humour are part of the performance, making this a good choice for anyone who enjoys hearing a little about the people behind the songs.

Make a Date with Fleetwood Mac and ABBA
Two nights later, the Capitol Theatre hosts an evening of familiar favourites. Dreams and Arrival take the stage Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m.
Dreams pays tribute to Fleetwood Mac, while Arrival brings the music of ABBA to the same bill. If your household’s playlists lean toward classic rock and pop, this one might be an easy decision. Invite a friend, arrange dinner beforehand and make an evening of it.

Enjoy the music of Fleetwood Mac and ABBA when Dreams and Arrival perform at the Capitol Theatre on November 7.
Support Your Local Stage
Portal Players brings Pen Pals, by Michael Griffo, to the Capitol Theatre on selected dates November 13–28, with performances at 7:30 p.m.
Community theatre gives local performers and volunteers a chance to share their work with an audience. Taking a seat is one way to help keep that tradition going.
Single-show tickets are $30 per person, and Pen Pals is also included in the theatre’s 2026–27 season pass. Check performance dates and book your seats.
Put Dinosaurs on the Family Calendar
For a daytime outing, head to the Alberni Valley Museum for Dinosaurs of BC, a travelling exhibition produced by the Royal BC Museum. It’s on display September 2026 through January 2027, so November offers plenty of opportunity to plan a visit.

The Royal BC Museum’s travelling exhibition, Dinosaurs of BC, is at the Alberni Valley Museum through January 2027.
Make it an afternoon with the kids, or go at your own pace and leave time for the museum’s permanent collection. Photographs and artifacts share stories of the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples, local industries and the communities of the Alberni Valley.
Check the museum’s exhibition information before heading over.
Welcome a Little Christmas at Shannon Farms
Close out the month at Shannon Farms’ Mini Christmas Market on Sunday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The market takes place in The Cabin at 8865 Beaver Creek Road. Bring cash, as electronic payments can be unreliable, and consider travelling together because parking is limited. Check the Shannon Farms market page for further details as the date approaches.
Make Your November Plans
November’s plans don’t have to wait for December’s festivities. Book a performance, make time for the museum or spend a Sunday morning shopping locally. For more November activities, visit the Alberni Valley Events Calendar.
