Every September, the Alberni Valley comes alive with the sounds of laughter, music, and the low hum of carnival rides. While many know the Alberni District Fall Fair for its midway thrills, Superdogs, and the colourful Saturday morning parade, it’s also a reflection of something deeper: a legacy built on community care, culture, and connection.

More Than a Fairground

Held on the traditional territory of the Tseshaht and Hupacasath First Nations, the Fall Fair has become a local institution, celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2025. It’s more than a place to enjoy cotton candy and concerts — it’s a living expression of rural traditions, youth achievement, and collaborative spirit.

Behind the scenes, dozens of community members volunteer their time to bring the fair to life. Local 4-H clubs raise and present livestock, elders share their gardening and baking know-how in exhibition halls, and families gather year after year to take part in what has become a shared experience for many generations.

Powered by People

From ticket booths to barn supervision, the fair is made possible by volunteers — some of whom have been involved for decades. Others are first-timers, stepping in to help with event logistics, parade coordination, or vendor support. Whether you’re in the ring with sheep or running a face-painting table, your efforts are woven into the fabric of the event.

This community-first approach is part of what makes the Alberni Fall Fair feel personal — no matter how big it gets.

Attractions & Entertainment Highlights

There’s something for everyone at this year’s fair. Thrill-seekers can enjoy the West Coast Amusements midway, featuring classic carnival rides and games. Families with young children will love the interactive Superdogs show, while the agricultural barns offer a quieter look at local livestock, gardening, and food traditions.

Live music is also a major draw. The fair’s Saturday night headliner, Dear Rouge, will take the main stage with their signature indie-pop sound. Additional performances throughout the weekend will feature local and regional talent, providing something for every musical taste.

Logger sports demos, craft showcases, and food trucks round out the entertainment schedule — so no matter your age or interests, you’ll find plenty to enjoy.
