A Community Effort
The revival of the APR is a testament to the dedication of the WVIIHS and its volunteers. Over the years, these passionate individuals have worked tirelessly to restore and maintain the railway’s vintage equipment, ensuring that each ride is safe, enjoyable, and historically accurate. The society’s efforts culminated in the recent refurbishment of the #7 locomotive, which is now certified and will soon be ready to delight passengers once again.
The Legacy of the Alberni Pacific Railway
The Alberni Pacific Railway has been a cherished part of Port Alberni’s heritage since its inception in 1984. Initially serving the lumber export markets, the railway now functions as a living museum, preserving and showcasing vintage locomotives and trucks. The star of the show is the #7 Baldwin steam locomotive, a 1929 marvel that has hauled logs, carried passengers, and even survived a plunge into the Franklin River.
