Fire Ban

UPDATE: Campfire Ban Lifted – August 28, 2024

As of 12:00 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the campfire ban in the coastal region has been lifted. This applies only to the coastal region; campfire bans in other parts of the province remain in effect. For more information, please refer to the BC Wildfire Service’s official media release.

Reminders about campfires:

  • A campfire is defined as any fire smaller than 0.5 metres high by 0.5 metres wide.
  • Never light a campfire or keep it burning in windy conditions. Weather can change quickly and the wind may carry embers to other combustible material.
  • Maintain a fireguard around your campfire. This is a fuel-free area where all flammable materials (grass, leaves, kindling, etc.) have been removed right down to the soil.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Make sure that any fire is completely extinguished and the ashes are cold to the touch before leaving the area for any length of time.

Fire Ban in Effect: July 12 – October 31, 2024

Attention Residents and Visitors:

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Friday, July 12, 2024, a campfire ban will be enforced throughout the Coastal Fire Centre. This measure is crucial to prevent human-caused wildfires and ensure public safety.
