Port Alberni Salmon Derby and Festival

Celebrating 50+ Years!

Port Alberni’s Annual Salmon Derby (with $34,000 worth of prizes!) is heading back to where it all began for its 2024 event. After 50 years of being held in various locations, the 2024 Salmon Derby will be held at the Alberni Valley Tyee Club & Fisherman, home to its very first derby, back in 1939.

The Tyee Salmon Derby returns every Labour Day Long Weekend and promises to be a fun filled event with daily cash prizes and plenty of… fishing! The derby will still have the daily cash prizes along with the daily hidden draws and a bonus for the largest salmon caught. Aside from fishing this family friendly event will also includes Live Entertainment, Traditional Salmon Dinner and even a kid-friendly Youth Zone! Congratulations to the winner of the Alberni Valley Tyee Club Labour Day Salmon Derby, Dan Sexton! This is his second derby win (previously won in 1998) Dan was named the overall winner on Monday, Sept. 4 with his 23-pound, 14-ounce salmon caught at Pill Point.
