Since its inaugural run in 1928, the Sproat Lake Regatta—popularly known as Lightning on the Lake Port Alberni—has showcased high-speed boat racing against a stunning island backdrop. In its early years, 20-hp wooden boats competed over five-mile courses; today you’ll see everything from vintage runabouts to modern Formula One hydroplanes.
